Kai frowned. ‘Tired’ would not have been her word of choice in describing what little she had seen of the other woman’s state of mind. ‘Exhausted’ would be more accurate, or ‘drained’. ‘Tired’ didn’t begin to explain it.
“That it has.” She studied the other woman’s posture, eyes on her face when she spoke again. “Jules, it looks like you’re more than just ‘tired’.” Her brow furrowed. “And we’ve seen each other tired.”
Rubbing the side of her head with her fingers, she flashed Kai a weak smile. "The good old days,” she joked weakly, blinking rapidly as a wave of voices swept over her for a moment. She inhaled deeply through her nose, counted to five and then exhaled softly.
“To be honest, I am a bit more than tired.” Juliette cast a quick glance towards the the floor as she tried to think of what to say next. “However, I doubt there’s little that could fix it at the moment. There’s just too much to do. Maybe once this war is over…”
