“You can’t what?” Kai’s shoulders rose and her face was carefully neutral. “Juliette, it’s me.” She licked her lips and released a terse sigh. “What the hell’s going on? What’s so bad you can’t talk about it?” What’s so bad you can’t talk about it with me? “Do you have something to hide?”
"What-” Juliette’s eyes widened in horror as she looked at Kai. The woman’s guess that she had something to hide hit too close to home, and she immediately launched onto the defensive. “Why the hell would you think that? There's nothing I have to hide from you!”
