Juliette’s words struck her like a blow to the face. Her eyes went wide before she carefully schooled her expression into one of neutrality—her ‘commander’ mask. “I’m well aware. I am merely concerned about the welfare of a friend, but if she no longer wants my assistance, I’ll stay out of her way.” She inclined her head slightly before dropping her arms and tucking them behind her back. “Is there anything more you need from me, Commander?”
Juliette flinched at the cool look Kai gave her, but refused to back down. If she had no attachments she could direct all her attention to the war. Could work on making sure the people who needed to survive survived. “No.” She replied curtly, looking away from her friend, no her fellow soldier and scowling. “You are dismissed. Remember to hand in your report within the next hour.”
