Juliette smiled weakly at the man, her eyes half closed as the world around her started to dim. “Thank you Ali… For everything.”
Feeling her hand clasp around his, squeezing tightly due to the pain she was feeling, Ali gave her hand a gentle squeeze back while a look of sadness and helplessness vered over his eyes.
“What is there to be sorry for?” he asked, giving her a small but pained smile in response. “It is I who should be sorry.” For so long since they had battled together, side by side, the thought of not being there faster has lomed over his thoughts as well as his feelings.
“I wasn’t fast enough,” he muttered. “I wasn’t there when you needed me most.”
“You were always there.” She whispered, lifting a hand and cupping his cheek. Smiling, she caught his gaze with her own. “Don’t ever think that my friend…”
Her hand began to slip from his cheek as the darkness began to spread further across her vision. As she went to breathe the breath got stuck in her throat. her mind screamed at her to hold on, but her body refused to listen.
Closing her eyes, she let the darkness and chill envelop her. Stillness settled over her and her hand fell to the ground, useless and broken.
