Juliette’s words stung more than the mercenary cared to admit. Juliette had been her one, steadfast friend in the Reds, the one person she could count on. She hadn’t expected her to be happy, but the lack of care burned. Diana pressed her lips into a thin line. She has no idea what it’s been like.
“You’re telling me you were never curious as to why I didn’t show? What happened?” She met the taller woman’s glare evenly, nonplussed. “Did you even look for me?” Rage, searing hot, bubbled in her veins. “Yeah, I made a bad call which led to more shit, but I don’t remember you even looking back once.”
The sniper folded her arms over her chest. “But so be it. I’ve got a payment to collect.” She swiveled on her heel and moved to leave.
She watched Diana walk away, her tongue heavy with the words that went unsaid. She had spent years trying to track down her friend, only to run into dozens upon dozens of dead ends. In the end she had come to the conclusion that Kai had died, and now she saw she wasn’t too far off.
"I looked back more times than you’ll ever realize!” She snapped back, tears forming in her eyes. The loneliness grew and weighed her down until she didn’t think she could continue to stand. “I even went back to the Reds and asked about you…
"It was when I was promoted to Commander that I finally came to the conclusion that you had died.” Her voice cracked and she blinked her eyes quickly several times as the tears started falling down her cheeks. “You had died, and I wasn’t there with you.”
