The Hitchhiker || Garrus and Juliette

turiancalibration:

Garrus knew better than to have scolded her for doing what she had believed what was right; self justice was a rather prominent thing out there, though the Alliance seemed to think it wasn’t. Turians often did that sort of thing, at least locally, so he had no reservations in telling her what good she had done in ridding the world of such a criminal. He frowned slightly when she claimed she had thought that she had been insane, shaking his head. “You’re not insane, you’re just a realist. You know what has to be done in this world, and sometimes it’s not always a nice, fairytale ending,” he explained, flicking his gaze to her for a moment before looking back out.

It had begun to grow somewhat dark now, dusk perhaps, though he wasn’t completely sure of the time. He had been driving around with her for a while now and he didn’t even know her name, or her his. Yet, somehow, it was pleasant. He sighed as she spoke after a long while, suggesting a reason for feeling guilty. “You humans all feel that you want to save everyone, do the right thing every time, no offence,” he took in a deep breath, swallowing some. “Turians see things a little differently. The government would have thanked you, praised you, for having done a service to your fellow man…But that’s just between us,” he murmured, knowing that to maintain public relations the Turians needed to ride on the back burner with things like that now.

She had to admit, she was surprised to hear him denounce her claims of insanity. To her turians had always seemed like strict rule followers, and she had half-expected a lecture from him for breaking protocol to kill a man. “No, you’re absolutely right. I mean about the whole fairy tale thing. I don’t know if I would label myself as a realist, but-” She stopped and bit the inside of her lip. in thought. “But I guess that makes some sense.”

Juliette listened in respectful silence as he explained the turian view point to such things. She blinked at his comment about humans needing to do the right thing all the time, a small smile drifting across her face. Honestly, she could understand how he had come to the conclusion; however, she personally felt that it was wrong. Personally, she had only known a handful of men and women who tried to do the right thing all the time, every other human she knew was greedy and selfish, though she refused to point this out to him. Maybe it was better that he believe in the stereotype. She finally noticed that the world outside them was growing dark and she sighed. “Maybe we should find a place for me to spend the night. A cheap motel or something…”
