The brunette shifted her weight and her gaze dropped to the floor. Her hands clenched and released at her sides, thoughts a whirl as she tried to find something to say. Something to convince Juliette otherwise. “I know that.” A shuddering sigh passed through her lips. “What do you want me to say, Jules? That I’m ok with the idea of one of you sacrificing your life for mine?” Her gaze rose to the woman before her. “Because I’m not.”
Part of her knew she and Kai would never be able to reach a compromise about all of this. No matter what her friend said she would always be willing to sacrifice herself to save Kai. And no matter what the redhead said, her friend would never be able to accept such a sacrifice. “Kai… Maybe the thing about this is that… It’s just something you have to accept. You don’t have to like it, but no matter what you do or say it’s not going to stop it from happening.”
