Hannah grit her teeth and looked away. In shame, or anger, it wasn’t clear. “I—I didn’t know.” She whispered. Her voice cracking. The hot sting of tears burning her eyes. Hannah inhaled hiccuped breaths. “I’m sorry.”

She stopped herself before she crossed the line and started insulting the woman she once called mother. An unfamiliar emotion started worming it’s way into her chest as she continued to stare at her mother, and she bit the inside of her lip to stop herself from investigating it.
